Bypass/Walnut/College lane closures

Construction on the Bypass is a dreaded reality these days, when getting there from here is nearly impossible. What with lane closures on 10th, 3rd and Bypass recently, leaving home is fast becoming a chore. And it will likely only get worse.

As indicated in a newspaper story today, Walnut, College and Bypass will all be one lane, with dedicated left turn lanes, from today through the winter. Between Kinser Pike and College Ave, traffic on Bypass will all be on the north side of Bypass to allow for bridge work.

The good news is that the small area west of Kinser is being reopened. And the work on North Dunn, north of the Bypass, seems to be done, with the intersection finally open.

If anyone is on Twitter, @IUtraffic tries to keep updated on traffic issues around campus, although it is a volunteer effort so not 100%. If you plan to go past the athletics complex area, I recommend double-checking the sports schedules since traffic is often diverted for basketball games (and football games in the fall) along with the extra traffic.

As previously mentioned, one alternative to Bypass if you are heading to Ellettsville or beyond is to take 17th St to Arlington Rd.
